She rudely, stopped the General and said the following, "Do me a favor, could you call me senator instead of ma'am? It's just a thing, I've worked so hard to get that title, I’d appreciate it. Thank you." What is the difference?
Why do some women see the word "ma'am" as patronizing and belittling? One thing I can't stand is to hear a snot nose young'in saying "yeah" or "nope" and NOT using the respectful words of "sir" and "ma'am."
To me one of the things wrong with our youth today is the little respect they give their elders. Even as an adult I use the terms all the time. I even use it with my children, partly because I want them to be so used to hearing it that they say it automatically.
I don't know, but these egotistical, liberal, feminist really get under my skin sometimes.
Here is an article on the whole encounter.

I actually got called to school because my son was using ma'am in the 6th grade. I was confronted by the teacher with "Do you require your son..."
YES, we do.
Oh, she says. Well, in order to fit in here he probably shouldnt do that.
So, he was informed that he was only to use this word ONCE in a conversation...but he was to use it.
I should have gone to the principle and screamed the roof down...to this day I'm sad that I didn't.
